BRIGHTON NEIGHBORHOOD OUTREACH The Brighton Neighborhood Outreach grew out of a desire to assist families and children in the Brighton Neighborhood in Zanesville. Recent surveys released by the Department of Children's Services revealed that 47% of its referrals come from a 29 block area around Brighton Presbyterian Church. We have attempted to provide innovative programming that will develop the skills and increase the self-esteem of children and families of the Brighton area. Brighton Neighborhood Outreach sponsors the following programs: Summer Peace Camp for Kids - a daily program for boys and girls from K-6th grade which explores God's call to each of us to live in peace with the environment and with each other.
Homework Helpers: a tutoring program for children on Monday-Thursday staffed by retired teachers and church volunteers.
BusStop Breakfast - Each Wednesday morning a nutritious breakfast is served to an average of 20 children in the neighborhood. The program is supported by a coordinator, 5 volunteers, and a registered nurse.
Computer Technology Lab - With a $10,000 grant from SBC, the BNO was able to open a Computer Technology Lab. The lab has recently been equipped with NOVA NET, a system which is used county-wide.
Girl Scout Troops - Each Monday and Tuesday more than 40 neighborhood girls, along with adult leaders, gather for a troop meeting.
Brighton Neighborhood Choir Camp - a summer choir camp for boys and girls, ages 9-12. God's Great Gardening Adventure - A Neighborhood Garden has been developed to allow participants to develop gardening skills and to supply fresh produce to neighborhood families. 4-H Club - A weekly club for boys and girls that focuses on life-skills.
